Landscapes serve a much-needed purpose in our communities. They give us places for relaxation, recreation, contemplation and regeneration. They clean the air and cool the environment. Did you know that a 50 x 50 ft. lawn provides enough oxygen for a family of four and eight healthy front lawns have the cooling effect of 70 tons of air conditioning - enough for 16 average-sized homes?
Trees reduce the amount of radiant energy absorbed and stored by concrete, asphalt and buildings. Their transpiration process converts water to cooling vapor - a solar process that would otherwise result in heating air to create even higher temperatures. As communities, we receive these benefits because we value and care for these landscaped areas.

ALCC recognizes that our industry has a responsibility to be good stewards of the environment. We work in partnership with our members to provide standards and guidance on environmentally responsible landscape practices.
ALCC and its umbrella association, GreenCO, produced a series of Green Industry Best Management Practices for the Conservation and Protection of Water Resources in Colorado. Regularly revised and updated, this important industry resource outlines critical procedures on a variety of landscape design, construction, maintenance and irrigation topics that promote environmental stewardship. This program was made possible through grants by the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
